MEE - Conflict of Laws

The finish line is in sight.

Today we're learning about Conflict of Laws. It should be illegal to test on this, but until then, we must study it.

Don't let the NCBE catch you slacking on this one. There are some good tricks in here that'll score you easy points.

You can find it in the free MEE Course.

We'll learn:
- Erie + Klaxon Combo: Use state substantive law in federal court, and remember, choice-of-law rules are also substantive.
Choice of Law: Vested Rights (Lex Loci), Most Significant Relationship, and Governmental Interest Analysis aka the VR Moose Gang.
- Marriage & Divorce Recognition: Valid where celebrated = valid everywhere (unless it’s super weird). Divorce hinges on domicile.
- Domicile Matters: Not just for divorce, also for property division, intestacy, and will validity.
- Wills & Succession: Look to the law of the domicile at death... and toss in “The will speaks at the time of death” even if you have no idea what it means.
- Full Faith & Credit: States can’t just ignore judgments, unless it’s a custody dispute and someone broke PKPA rules.

These essays won't know what hit them.

Let's get it next week. You're all going to do amazing.
