Intentional Torts: Defenses Part 2 - Necessity

Welcome goats.

Part two of the four part Defenses to Intentional Torts series has descended from the heavens and into our hearts.

We're talking: Necessity - aka when you can break shit and it's kind of okay

Find it in the Torts course.

Pretty simple. General partnerships are dangerous for this reason.

Pretty simple. General partnerships are dangerous for this reason.

We cover:
Private necessity - you can trespass to save yourself or someone else, but you still have to pay for anything you break
Public necessity - you save the town, you walk away free.

Examples include:
- Boats, storms, broken piers
- Burning furniture to survive
- Stalking your kid with an AirTag and busting down a door
- Shooting a diseased animal to stop a public outbreak
- And whether you can burn down 100 houses to save 12

Basically, if the emergency is real and you act reasonably, you're good. But it's a little more complicated than that. Check the module to find out how.
