Bar Exam Strategy: What to Study and What to Ignore

Hey goats. Let's get into it.

We know that not all bar exam topics are created equal. Some are tested constantly and some barely show up.

Studying for the bar is about efficiency, not perfection.

Below is a list that was given to me by my great grand-goat (pictured above). It's been passed down through the family line for generations. And now I give it to you.

This list tells you exactly where to spend your time based on how frequently each topic appears.
High Priority
These sub-topics make up a big percentage of your score. Study them hard.
(%) is percent of final score.
Medium Priority
These make up a smaller percentage of your score. Review them, but don't go AS deep in your final days before the exam.
(%) is percent of final score.
Low Priority
Likely too small to waste your time studying these in the final days.
(%) is percent of final score.
  • Criminal Law: General Principles (1.1%)
  • CivPro: Appealability and review (0.9%)
  • Contracts: Third party rights (0.9%)
  • CivPro: Law applied by federal courts (0.8%)
  • CivPro: Jury trials (0.7%)
  • Contracts: Contract content and meaning (0.5%)
  • Evidence: Writings, recordings and photographs (0.4%)
There you go. My precious family knowledge bestowed unto you.

Please cherish it.

You don't have to know everything for the bar, just the right things.

Good luck!
